New Scholarship for Military Family Graduates

The Committee for Families of War Veterans is Opening Scholarship Applications for Military Dependents

Applications for the first Honor Salute Scholarship, a new  scholarship to be awarded to graduating Hudson Valley students who are dependents of military service members, are now open.

The Committee will select one eligible graduating senior from each of the following counties:

Orange

Ulster

Sullivan

Dutchess

Rockland

    • to receive a $1500.00 scholarship, to be applied to continuing education of the student’s choice (including internships and trade schools)
    • Graduating seniors who are directly enlisting in the military are also eligible

Applications requirements are:

– Include one to three letters of reference from a non-related person, at least one of which must be a teacher, coach, administrator, staff member, or guidance counselor of their school

–  Submit an essay of 250-500 words on their life and experience as the child of a service member, what they will put the funds toward, and their plans for their future to contribute to their country or community.

– Deadline to submit is May 20.

– Submit essays with full name, address, email, and phone number of a parent or legal guardian to Stephen Renna,  [email protected]

All emails must have county and name of applicant, and the subject: Scholarship application

For example: Orange County, John Smith Scholarship application

All documents must be scanned into one file, and emailed as one document

Applications that do not follow those instructions may not be considered.

Recipients will be told of their award by Monday May 20, and publicly announced May 23, between 6 pm – 8:30 pm live at the Committee fundraiser, held at Delanceys in Goshen (Recipients do not need to be in attendance)

Recipients must provide proof of eligibility prior to receiving the award- must be enrolled in DEERS and provide proof of such.
